Canonical URL

The preferred URL that represents a page when duplicates exist.

What it means

A canonical URL, declared with a rel="canonical" link element, tells search engines which version of a page is the definitive one when duplicate or very similar content exists at multiple URLs. Proper canonicalization consolidates ranking signals and prevents duplicate-content dilution. Clean canonical signals also help AI crawlers identify the authoritative version of your content to retrieve and cite.
